Overall, I enjoyed the story. Albeit a short first book, it actually didn’t end on a major cliffhanger, which is a breath of fresh air.
I guess I’m not part of the majority on this one since everyone is raving about the narrator. I couldn’t stand his characterization at times. Remy sounds like drunk Captain Jack Sparrow and Sabine sounds like a whiny 15 year old girl.
Yes, I know the heroine is young and judgmental, but the narrator makes it so much worse. He over exaggerated her thoughts and comments, which eventually made me want to slap her. The idea that anyone could fall in love with a 21 year old woman who constantly thinks and speaks in a condescending, bratty tone didn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy. It left me asking why in the heck anyone would ever want her at all.
I know that Sabine’s part could’ve been portrayed in a better light. For instance, when I express myself, even if I am complaining, I do my best to watch my tone of voice so I don’t come off as a total b**ch. Just because my life isn’t playing out how I want doesn’t mean I’m thinking and speaking like a 15 year old kid. It is possible for women to speak their mind with a decent tone of voice.
I’m really confused as to why everyone loved the narration so much.
