I find the characters endearing and interesting. But there is, what I feel is, lazy writing by using sounds instead of describing a scene. Saying “boom” instead of using words to describe an explosion is quick, easy and requires little effort. “Splat” “squish” or the like is distracting from creating an immersive reading experience and ensures that I, regularly, am disengaged from the story by the word sounds instead of a consistent flow of words.
