I was quite enjoying the first few hours of the book, author does a good job of taking normal RPG/Fantasy mechanics and turning them on their head to be just ridiculous enough to be funny, but without becoming completely obnoxious. There are some good comedic moments as we learn about our main cast and the world.
At a certain point though, about half way through the book I think, it really starts leaning heavily into more standard LitRPG tropes. Our characters form a very standard adventure party working for a very standard adventuring guild, taking on very standard adventure guild jobs, with very standard LitRPG character motivations (level up, make money). At the same point the dialogue between the characters really starts to run stale. About 3/4 of the way through the book I paused and realized I was just listening to any other LitRPG story now, but without the deep systems, character progression, or world building that usually comes along with that. That had all been thrown out in favor of a more light hearted setting and goofier, less serious characters, but the characters aren’t funny enough to carry the story on their own and it seems like after the first few hours the author had either given up, or run out of ideas, on how to continue with the trope subversions that made the opening hours of the story so entertaining.
