- What did you like about this audiobook?
- More interesting character development and more cohesive story telling. The dialog was mostly cringe worthy at times. I’m no stranger to cursing or sexual thoughts, but the way it was focused on in this book was crude. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but was constantly brought out of the story by the unbelievable characters. In the end, it was painful to get through with a unsatisfying climax.
- How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
- Probably not.
- Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
- The narrator did a good enough job. Though it seemed at times he didn’t pronounce the beginning of the character Henry’s name, which I felt was quite jarring. I did really enjoy the accent he used for the god Dollos.
- What did you find wrong about the narrator’s performance?
- The section of the book that basically went back and retold the story up to that point from the point of view of the female love interest for Henry was completely jarring and a slog to get through. I almost stopped listening to this book several times for things like this. Half the time it felt like the author thought that the reader was stupid the way things were explained several times.
- Do you have any additional comments?
- I don’t mean to sound so negative of the story, but unfortunately I must. I found the premise interesting and clever. I found myself wanting to know more about the world and how things worked. The story just never came together in a way that I enjoyed.
