With better narration I might have soldiered on to the end of the book. The main character had possibilities, but I stopped halfway through so I don’t know if he ended up being outed as an actual caring person despite his protestations to the contrary. I prefer Murderbot for that kind of a hero.
It might be one of my personal pet peeves, but I simply cannot stand narrators who end every word with a breathy explosion. I don’t quite know how to describe it, but it makes it sound like they’re trying too hard. Also, overenunciation. Sorry, Jeff! Although I will say he’s pretty good at various voices, even female.
I bought it on sale so it wouldn’tve been too much of a loss, but luckily it looks like I have time to return it.
