I was already a fan of Tom Abrahams, and the man is no stranger to telling post apocalyptic tales. For this new series he’s come up with a crazy new concept. Each book is basically going to be a stand alone tale and yet he’s going to use the same characters in each book, with them getting thrown into a new type of apocalypse in each volume. In Ash Tom takes various characters (an ex-con, some college students, a group of preppers, and a loner) and throws them into a world that has suffered a nuclear attack. It’s an interesting collection of characters and the story is quite entertaining. As cool as this concept it, the one issue I have with it is that I love how most apocalyptic series have us following the same group of characters over a prolonged time. And while this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger or anything like that, I am still left wondering what comes next for them. Of course I won’t ever find out, because what comes next for these characters is a brand new apocalypse. That being said I did enjoy the book and look forward to seeing what kind of meat grinder Tom will drop them into next.
The book is narrated by THE voice of apocalyptic fiction, the talented Kevin Pierce, and as well the man delivers an excellent performance.
