This audiobook is not my cup of tea, but it is very well written and performed very well. It is too gritty and angsty to be what I am looking for in a contemporary romance, but I am sure that lots of people will love it. The story is steamy, emotional, and full of secrets, lies, and suspense. There is a bunch of bad language and some emotional and physical abuse by the despicable villain. The story starts off with the horrors of Kinsley’s marriage to a sadistic man who is rich and powerful enough to get away with whatever he wants. Thankfully, a kindly woman rescued Kinsley and gave her a new identity. Then she met a new rich man named Ashton who actually wanted to cherish and protect her without being a psycho. It took me a little while for me to like Ashton, but he grew on me. The author showed great talent at dialogue, love scenes, atmosphere, characterization, and emotional turmoil.

Sarah Puckett’s performance is really high quality. Her voice for the heroine is beautiful and sultry. Her men’s voices are very masculine and believable. The hero’s voice is quite sexy. The pacing is usually deliberately drawn out, but action scenes do have the appropriate pacing to feel exciting.
