This is book 1 of the St. Mary’s Rebels Series. St. Mary’s is a reform school for troubled girls. This book is about Salem who is 18 and Arrow who is 23. Salem and her sister Sara were sent to live with Arrow when their mother passed away. At the time Salem was 10. Arrow’s mother runs the reform school and expects perfection. Arrow is a soccer star and was in a relationship with Salem’s sister, for 8 years. Arrow and Sara were living in California until his anger got him sent back home. No one knows Salem has been secretly in love with her darling Arrow from the first moment she saw him. Now, Arrow is set to be coaching Salem’s soccer team at the reform school. I think in the beginning Salem loved the version of Arrow that she thought he was, not who he truly was. Until Arrow came back to St. Mary’s, Salem thought Arrow was such a nice guy. Arrow and Sara’s relationship was built on Arrow being perfect for everyone else because that was what was expected from him. That relationship was probably doomed from the start because it wasn’t real. I really disliked both Sara and Arrow’s mom. I think they really jaded his heart in equally very unhealthy ways. It took Salem’s willingness to accept Arrow for who he was now and how he was to make him realize he really had a heart. Maybe Salem really was a witch and bewitched Arrow afterall. Love was not easy for Arrow or Salem. As the saying goes, nothing worth having comes easy. Salem really was wise beyond her 18 years old. Salem was also wild and lived to break rules. It takes longer to like Arrow because he is definitely NOT the perfect soccer star everyone else thinks he is. Arrow is actually quite moody, a jerk, and really just looking for a good time in the beginning. It really makes me wonder how Arrow could be so blind to Salem for all these years? Salem was literally right under his own roof and he never even took notice of her. This book also introduces some of the characters that will be in the following books.
