I enjoyed listening to this book. Yes, it’s another apocalyptic work of fiction, but I thought this one was done very well (and I really enjoy this genre). The book basically follows several different characters who (I surmise) will eventually come together after an outbreak of a weaponized virus kills the majority of people on the planet. The progression of events and tasks the characters undertake is very similar to what I could imagine in a scenario like this. At one point, there’s a scene at a gas station. My first thought was why are there only two people there and why hadn’t a local bully taken it over. Sure enough, the next morning, it had been confiscated by force and the good guys had to flee.

Most everyone winds up at a small lakeside camp and try to establish a new home. Of course, by the end of the book, trouble is stirring and there is a lot of foreshadowing about events to come (in book 2)!!!

The characters were well developed. I really enjoyed taking the journey with them.

My biggest kudos has to be the lack of any supernatural. I like my fair share of fantasy books, but I think it just detracts from a story like this. Glad Mike Sheridan stayed away from anything like that.

The narration was great. Always is with Kevin Pierce.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
