This was a difficult book to rate. I really liked the beginning and end. There was only one section I didn’t like and that was a bit in the middle of the story that took place in the home. I hate giving anything away so I keep it intentionally vague.
It was an inventive story that seemed older than it was. For most of it, I got the impression of an Ambrose Bierce era tale which I loved. If I could take out the middle of the story I would have given it a 4*.
