I found this story to be pretty well balanced and engaging. I particularly appreciate that it avoids the clueless hero trope so common in the genre. The MC feels more real because he pauses to think, second-guesses what he is told, and is wary of others. We get a bit of backstory, which gives the MC weight and realism. There are hints of possible harem elements later, but they are avoided so far. For those who don’t like to hear swear words, this may not be a great option for you. Our MC is a soldier who likes to swear … a lot. I didn’t get the feeling of it adding anything meaningful to the story, but I suspect the author just wanted it to be a part of the MC’s personality. If you enjoy lit-RPG, I highly recommend this story. It also has a ton of gaming references and phrasing that I enjoyed as a gamer.
Regarding the narration, I feel calling what Soundbooth Theater does as narration is almost insulting. They don’t read a story, they act it out as a performance. I can’t say enough about what they do. The performances definitely bring something more to the story.
