The story is OK, if a little contrived. If you like military action on land, sea and air, this is the book for you. If you want accurate depictions of weapons, military procedures, and jargon, skip it. The story kept me listening, because it gets better in the second half of the book. My main complaint is the dialogue. Almost every interaction contains trite phrases that sound like they came out of old WWII movies. Most people don’t speak the way these characters do.

The narrator was good, given what he had to work with. I’ve heard him before, and my only complaint about his style is that sometimes he slips into a folksy way of speaking, and adds a little vocal fry to top it off. Most probably aren’t bothered by this, but it’s something that is a little off-putting to me.
