You know how in many adventure stories, side characters who don’t like or know the main character think the MC survives through blind luck & more talented friends? It isn’t true, and as the reader, you know the MC is intelligent & resourceful. Well, welcome to the story that makes those haters correct. Carl is an idiot. Simply put. He wins because the writer says so. He does stuff that makes no sense. The only way you’d make his decisions is if you knew you were going to live because you’re the MC of a story. The cat is exactly what you would expect from a talking cat. Which makes her one of the most annoying characters ever. But neither of those is the biggest problem with the series. The writer seems to have learned his writing style from whodunnit style murder mysteries. Where the climax happens with no explanation, then everything is explained afterward. This happens.. REPEATEDLY throughout this story. It happens at the end of every book. But it also happens for just about every action sequence in the book. The other part of why this series is infuriating is I know exactly why this series is popular, and who it’s popular with. It’s the demographic that sees itself as Superman, when they are really Homelander.
