While the story itself might not be top tier, it’s incredibly entertaining. I often listen to books while I’m at work but rarely do I listen to them while doing my other hobbies. I couldn’t put this one down, listening to it even during my personal time. When I realized I only had a few minutes left, I was sad that I would need to wait for a sequel.
The book feels like a 12 episode magical highschool anime with all the right cheat skill power fantasy tropes. That said, it has incredibly thoughtful world building and ditches cringey tropes. The ones it does keep are tasteful and entertaining. With fun characters and a solid setting I’ll be eager for a sequel.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Soundbooth theatre’s productions are the ultimate way to experience a book. Their talented cast and sound design bring books to life in an unrivaled way. Sometimes I’ll even listen to books I don’t like just to hear their crew do the voices. They’ve brought this book to life and I highly recommend it.
