I enjoyed the first book, but still read the reviews of this book before getting. I saw multiple people who mentioned issues with the heroine and the treatment of her by the men in her life. I figured these must have been due to someone interpreting the book their own way, because “hey the first book wasn’t like that…”. Well I was wrong, this was just as bad as others have said and I will not be continuing with the story.

The author tells us how bad ass the heroine is, I mean she ‘saves’ the hero and is the head of security for her brother. But then SHOWS us that she’ll only stand up for herself for a minute before pouting and doing what ever the men in her life decide is best for her. The author also tells us how much the brother respects and loves his sister, but then SHOWS us that this isn’t true either. After the elimination of his enemy, one who wanted to force him into a romantic/sexual relationship he did not want (also rather homophobic), he decides that his unconscious sister is too fragile and needs to be protected (again she was HIS head of security) by the Alien he just met. So, he GIVES her to him, while she’s unconscious. He didn’t want to be in a relationship with someone and fought back, but had no issues decided on a permanent relationship for his sister (Alien takes her off planet, that’s pretty permanent). I just don’t even know how no one brought this hypocrisy to the author during the editing phases.

I wont go into the level of decision making the Alien does for his ‘love’ either, or the fact that he continues to make decisions about HER life when she’s unconscious. Because there were just to many to mention.

Overall, this book feeds into multiple sexist tropes, is at least a little homophobic, and was a complete let down. I wont be finishing with the story.

The narrator did a decent job, although his female voices need work still.
