Never before have I in a single book been told so many times how a character “shook his head” or said something “darkly” or “humorously”. There are other similar phrases and words that are overused to the extent that it became a frustrating experience listening to the book.

After a few hours of listening, I also got the feeling that the main character was an irredeemable neckbeard. Random fits of rage, blatant focus on sexual attributes whenever introducing and describing any female character, awkward dialogue (internal as external) and other similar things cemented that image in my head as the story went along. It didn’t do good for my experience.

The story does however describe an interesting game world with deep mechanics and a lot left to discover for the players, so that’s something. If it hadn’t been for that, this would be a 1-star.
