This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by Elias Witherow. Mostly that’s because I’m a hopeless romantic and that is my go to read/listen. I have been enjoying some different genres lately, so decided to request this audiobook. If you are a horror genre junkie, you may actually five star this story. But I’ve learned that the horror part is not my thing. A few warnings if you don’t want it in your read/listen is suicide, torture, dismemberment, rape, cannibalism, and just grossness. Total and complete grossness. I cringed so often. It’s been a long time since I’ve dipped my toe into horror, in books or movies, and it’s been a reminder that it’s not my thing.

But I did like that there was a journey. A difficult journey too. One that, I think, didn’t end just because the book did. I have mixed feelings about the message that life is better than death by suicide because of the what happens after death. But it makes one pause and think. And the love Nick had for Jess, with his choice to do what he needed to save her regardlessof how it impacted him, is why I’m giving it 3.5 stars. It fed this romantic’s heart. I had to know how this would end. Perfect end.

Tom Jordan is an excellent narrator. I loved his voice. He is easy to listen to for a longer period of time. His performance was perfection. I hope he does more narration than the horror genre. I’ll be looking up more from him if so.
