The story is alright, but the first thing I noticed about this book was the monotone way it was read. I kept listening, thinking at first it was done on purpose, but later deciding that probably wasn’t intentional. The irritating way it was being read pulled away from the plot of the book, and made it seem like some poorly done radio show. The things that were intended to be frightening became predicatable and boring. It was difficult to engage with what was going on, due to having to overcome the constant droning of the reader. I think I may have liked it more if I had read a paper version. There were a few really well scenes that actually made me forget the constant monotone, That says something for the story itself, that I was able to finish it, just to find out how it all resolved, but it was almost like torture.
