I can definitely understand the hype around this book. I’d never even heard of it until I saw its recent re-release from a major publisher at my Barnes and Noble. Then discovered it was huge as an audiobook. Bought the book and the audiobook and did NOT regret either purchase.
It was a wild ride with extremely likable characters. Those few bad reviews claiming the characters are one dimensional and the story juveniles are missing the point. Books should be escapes! Not slogs through reality.
Look, I’m no longer a big gamer myself. Was never a big RPG fan. And I’m 53 years old with a graduate degree. I loved this book for what it is…a fun heroic romp! The humor might have been juvenile, but I laughed out loud on several occasions (usually with the game’s AI’s announcements.
Don’t be an elitist snob! Pick up the book with an open mind. You’ll enjoy it! And for an added treat…be sure to check out the audiobook! The narrator was spectacular! One of the very best narrators I’ve ever heard.
