This was my first Steve Bird novel an I can see why I was reqiminded this when I was looking for a good horror similar to The Thing (1982 film). The story is quite grounded in real facts to show the readers the reality of the plot of the novel and the chacthers ferocity to survive threw it.
Has I read I enjoyed the authors take has he gave the cast of chacthers a diversity of skills and ecplations in backstorys that lead them to gaining them and there actions to surive in creative thought processes. Do there where times the story felt dumb like you didnt explain why a group of chacthers where late getting somewhere when they said “It was a long story an till tell it later” do never did. This leads to my other let down when finally at the end you didn’t explain how the world is replying the infected only that the notes from the scientist help with it.
The story over all was 6/10 scary 8/10 adventure 5/10 romance so over all an OK for first time horror readers to get into the genre.
