can’t say I disliked anything. the world ends and Carl has no choice but to go into the light. Mordecai, a former adventure, is his “Obi-wan” his cat quickly gains intelligence and is very much a cat. She grows greatly as a character.
the real angle is not so much the dungeon as it is the reality TV aspect. playing well on streamer culture the book makes you realize there is a game within a game but the author is smart and keeps the reality show in the background.
what I like most is how Carl gets in situations and has to think his way out. being a hack and slash gamer this is a satisfying approach.
one final note the whole foot thing, it’s there but the books don’t focus on it too much.
