Ferak’s “Failure of Justice” is a simply fascinating book, with the complete story of the Beatrice Six. In a small town in Nebraska, an elderly lady was viciously attacked in her apartment building in 1985. The case went cold, until a former police officer rekindled the investigation. However, as pointed out by the author, the police investigation was reckless, and with coerced confections, six innocent individuals served prison time. Almost twenty years later, DNA exonerated those convicted of the crime that were still serving sentences. Ferak’s research is extraordinary, and Kevin Pierce continues to be one of the best narrators, period.
