Torrent is the third book in Tom Abrahams Alt Apocalypse series, which is a series he’s writing in which he basically takes the same group of characters and throughs them into a new tragedy. This time around it’s a horrible flood in New Orleans. Now I’ve lived through quite a few hurricanes in my life and have dealt with flooding situations so this one really hit home for me. While there were quite a few characters in the book, the real focus was on one family’s experience. This is more of a personal/localized apocalypse tale, but the rising water and the devastation Abrahams describes all rang true/authentic to me. There was another storyline however about sounded interesting, focusing around one of the characters back in LA, but it was never fully explored or fleshed out. I would have loved to have known where Abrahams was going with that, but unfortunately that didn’t happen, so that part of the book felt more like a distraction/missed opportunity. But that being said, I enjoyed Torrent quite a bit and it’s a great addition to the Alt Apocalypse series.

As always Kevin Pierce delivers a stellar performance. He really is the voice of survival/apocalyptic fiction.
