I finished reading this book about a week ago, but I needed a few days to process the story because it’s been a long time that I’ve read something that impacted me so much. I went into this story blind. I’d seen several good recommendations for it and that was enough to get me to read it. And I’m glad I did.
After Nick and his girlfriend Jess take their lives, they wake up in a place on the other side known as “The Black Farm” where they’re quick to learn that their suffering is far from over. One thing is made clear to them—the Pig is the only way out of the Black Farm. But Nick is determined to find another way out. Will he succeed where no one has before?
The emotion in this story was the thing that stood out the most. From the opening chapter onward, the author wraps such real emotions into everything that the characters do. The growth of Nick as he travels through the Black Farm was my second favorite. Not only did I find myself rooting for him, I was constantly surprised at how he adapted for the next stages of his journey.
Dark and powerful, this is a definite must read for all horror fans.
