This series unlike too many post-apocalyptic survival stories does an excellent job with realism. the character seemed to be confronted with real problems I have logistical issues to deal with and while we are not bombarded with minutia, we’re already being asked to accept a plot line that includes a total disruption of society it’s great that it also includes realistic depictions of what that would look like that pay attention not only to the laws of physics basic principles of engineering orienteering and survival but also the reality that humans and survival modes are unlikely to demonstrate much altruism. we’re able to care about the characters in this story without expecting that nothing ever will happen to them they seem to be in danger it seems real and the author doesn’t really good job of convincing us that their struggle is a challenge. all in all it’s a really good example of what the survival genre can and should produce more often.
