This book continues the tradition of the first books success, without diluting or lessening the impact of the resolution from the first book. Impressive since the first book can stand on its own as a finished story. This book adds depth to the established world and its characters – all while it stands as its own story without needing to fully rely on the first book. There are a few points where motivations seem to be intense and out of no where… however as these books are about long term mental distress, I can see the irrationality of some being reasonable in the situation.

The performance of the voice cast is on point and gives real life to the large cast of characters.

There is however a major issue with this audio book, and that issue is the production quality and editing. There were several parts of this recording where I was listing to ‘dead air’ long enough for me to open the app and find it was still playing mid chapter, then it would eventually pick back up on the next-line… but not always. I fell like in several parts of this recording I missed a few lines of dialog to silence. There was also one glaring error toward the beginning where two actors were speaking over one another out of context for no reason.

The editing errors were bad enough that if I had not been so invested in the story I would have returned this audio book as defective.

While I will continue to read books by E.A Hooper, I will be avoiding titles produced by soundbooth theater in future. Or at minimum waiting until reviews are available on the audio quality.
