The story and characters are captivating and interesting. I just wish the author would have spent ten minutes researching Japanese family names, titles, and honorifics! You rarely find the title “father” without the honorific prefix O (great)…meaning it should be written Otou-San, not tousan (especially someone as important as a Matsuda) and no one except toddlers refer to their mother as Kaa-Chan, a boy of 14 would refer to his mother as Okaa-San out of respect.
I really, REALLY wish the narrater would have spent ten minutes researching Japanese pronunciation! Nee-san and Nii-san are NOT pronounced the same! All vowels in Japanese are pronounced, tousan is Tow-Oh-San not Too-San.
Sadly, I think this book would have been better for me had I read a physical copy instead of listening to the audiobook.
