This continues the puatera storyline but with a new perspective one from a player who has no gaming experience, it plays just a dash too hard with the jilted lover, my ex is a douche trope but only a bit. otherwise everything about this story is strong. Akillia is great and has a steep character growth arc and becomes a charming and powerful character, most of the cast is sharp and fun.
This book could be read as a stand alone and you wouldn’t miss much but the rest of the series hinges requires this and the earlier books in order to make sense though the next three books could be read in any order.
I don’t dislike annaliese Rennie, I just really liked the earlier voice actress. Rennie is good but directly following Maddies books she just didn’t pop for me.
Still a great book and you should definitely read it.
