The main character of this story is the genius who was among the first of any players to figure out the use of magic in the game world of NEO. The story’s preface makes it out as though he invented countless spells of unimaginable usefulness throughout his adventures. Spoiler alert for later books, he apparently invented all of two spells. A magic missile and an explosive ball spell. Even then, the magic missile was his only attack until almost level 40, which he doesn’t achieve until the third book. In this book, he finds a need and fills it by altering his magic missiles to become drilling arrows and gain armor penetration, and never does anything of the sort ever again in the five books that have been released. For a magical genius, he certainly doesn’t act like it and for his toting of the amount of “prime badges” he has, which you get for being the first to invent a skill, he only ever uses three or so of them and then gains the rest of his skills and spells circumstantially or through the help of others. I like the story and the development of the character later on, but I just wish the author hadn’t misled the the reader in this regard in the beginning.
