Put Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy, Hunger Games, and Dungeons & Dragons in a blender, add some dark humor, plus Rambo’s +10 headband of badassery, and you’ll get a pink potion that Carl can drink to give him a bonus against the next wacky boss monster. An imaginative, exciting, and well-written book. The dialog and plot elements are very well done, and the characters interesting. I’m not sure about the book’s tone though, as once it gets going it is a zany adventure, but there are many dark and tragic elements as well, and not appropriate for young children. However, the voice acting is excellent, so I highly recommend the audiobook.
