Homestead: A Post-Apocalyptic Tale of Human Survival After the Pulse, Book 1 written by L. Douglas Hogan. The audiobook is narrated by Kevin Pierce. Homestead is a unique EMP story as the setting is 2 years in the future after the EMP, for the most part. Unlike the average EMP story of a build to the event, event, and aftermath the listener gets to hear life post-event and the struggles after the first two years. This could be an excellent formula for a great story. There are a few problems. One is the need to flesh out some of the characters so the listener will be invested if they or die. Second is the time jump to the past to fill in the romance drama, it is needed but meh. I know this places me in the minority of the fan’s reviewing Mr. Hogan’s audiobook but it is an honest review with my opinion. The narration by Kevin Pierce is excellent as always. He is truly the voice of the apocalypse. Mr. Pierce has perfect timing, makes transitions, and gives another excellent performance.
