I collect vampire stories, so I could hardly pass up a vampire story by N.R. Walker. This one had some interesting ideas about vampire mythology. Some I liked. I found a few logic flaws in both of the vampire mythos and the parts of the plot. However, the pacing of the story and the integration of Ancient Egyptian religion into the vampire mythos. I did wish that we had a chance to get to know Alec on a more personal level. The reader isn’t given much insight into Alec’s life before he is forced into an improbable situation. I think a bit more insight would have made the story feel more personal. The book focuses mostly on the relationship between Cronin and Alec rather than their personal experiences, so I felt a little distanced from the characters.
Joel Leslie’s narration was performed well. I don’t always like his voice for certain characters, but his voice was suited to the characters in this book. Leslie does a very good job of creating accents and different voices for each individual. If you are looking for an audiobook with well performed narration, vampire mythology, and a few steamy scenes, this book will be a great read/listen.
