First, I did not finish the book so it might have gotten better towards the end but I could not get more than an hour into the story.
I don’t know if it was written in a language that doesn’t use pronouns and was translated or if the author just chose to refer to everyone names in every sentence but it got very confusing listening to names repeated. For example” wu ying told yin Shao that yin Shao needed to bathe. Yin Shao responded to wu ying that wu ying smelled worse than yin Shao did” not an actual quote, but very similar in how frequently the names were used. Lack of pronouns and being written in full third person was just too much to listen to.
