As many people have noted already, if you’re listening to this audiobook, you pretty much know what you’re going to get. As such, I was ready for Snack’s and Arm’s “liaisons”, the violence, and occasional sexual escapade.
However, a rape scene happens in the story to a main character that made me sick, and almost made me stop listening altogether. I hesitate to say this volume is a must listen because of it. Hence why I gave the Story a 3-Star review. I almost couldn’t finish the audiobook, and I don’t know if I’ll re-listen to this again. The frustrating part is that without it, the story is more of Boxxy T Morningwood and his band of chaos, and is hilarious and well produced/performed.

I almost stopped listening due to the rape of Cornie Fizzlesprocket (aka Fizzie). The rape scene, and emotional/mental aftermath with her really pissed me off. I loved her character in the last story, but for the story to require to break her to the point she considers suicide, in order to have her embrace the violence, chaos, and justify the cursed item were practically too much for me. Also the Stockholm Syndrome she develops after is gross and hard to listen to. Once the story left that gross plot line behind, it got manageable again and I could enjoy the remainder of the audiobook.
I powered through to finish, but I will take warnings about this more seriously on future volumes. It absolutely could’ve worked without it, and would’ve made for a far stronger story I feel.
Otherwise it was overall, the same hilarious dialogue, the constant absurdity, and the well produced narration I’ve come to expect from this series and the narrator Jeff Hayes. If the series can stay away from anymore unnecessary rape scenes, it’ll be much stronger for it.
