Our protagonist, Roy Skyworth is a police officer who meets his doom in a warehouse gunfight. He awakens on another planet not knowing where he is or how he got there. Oy finds himself in sort of a quasi-gaming world where he is able to see other beings’ aura. Roy will meet other warriors as the story progresses through a bit of dungeon diving, skill and stat sheets, and monster slaying. As the monsters are killed, the warrior absorbs its aura, thus increasing his own stats. In a meeting with the emissary of the dragon god, it is explained that the god is picking beings from across the cosmos to fill an army he needs for a coming battle against The Veil. The dungeon diving and monster slaying will create powerful warriors. This is pretty much the background you’ll receive in the first couple of chapters. The characters are interesting, and the action is well-scripted. There is another sub-plot concerning one of the evil guilds in the city, but this is not completely flushed out; more drama for future volumes. I enjoyed the story and will follow up with the next volume when it arrives. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
