Man, this is a tough one.
*light spoilers*
It’s perfectly OK, especially as a box set. But suspension of disbelief has to be strong to make this work.
The timeline is goofy. Full collapse happens way faster than basically every other book in the genre. Riots within hours. Kidnappings and human trafficking (prompted by the grid collapse) within about a day. Warlords within a few days. Perilous walks from Chicago to mid-Missouri in a few days, and from California just a few days longer.
Not once but twice, find a random HAM operator and inquire about family/friends long distances away and they just happen to know the info you want, even though the HAM knew no one involved. Just random good luck.
And a multitude of other things…
But, it’s entertaining enough.
Kevin always does well and bumps a book up a half star or more.
Personally, my entertainment was helped because I live very close to the group’s bug out location.
I probably wouldn’t have been so happy if this wasn’t a box set, four books in one. 26+ hours for one credit is a good deal for this series.
