I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.
I liked the beginning style of the book; where we are first shown a few weeks after the apocalyptic event and then we go in flashback. It has hallmarks of a great movie beginning. But that point onward, the book was sort of a disappointment really.
First off, the characters are very weak. Some female characters are literally weak and can’t take care of themselves and look for savior at every step. Other characters are figuratively weak, as in, their character lacks depth. The story mainly follows a set formula and doesn’t really excite me. The so called preppers do so many dumb things during the story that they can’t be called "prepared" at all. I guess those dumb actions were plot devices to move the story along. And then the book abruptly ends. No, it’s not a cliffhanger per se. The story is ongoing and suddenly the book ends. It’s like the author / publisher decided "eh, too much here already. Buy book 2 to continue now". There are so many loose ends and incomprehensible plot lines…!! I’m fine with books that have cliffhangers, if the book at least brings closure to some plot-line and teases a new plot-line in next book; or something similar. This book doesn’t do it like that.
