Five books into this series, I’m finding it pretty uneven.
The characterizations of the major characters vary from quite good to relatively flat. The action sequences are well-written.
OTOH, the plot is fairly standard and the series has a major case of Lensman Arms Race (see TVTropes). Further, when every challenge is an existential threat with little chance for the protagonist to win, but the protagonist wins every time, believability starts to be strained.
We’ll see how this continues, but at this point, the series is an adequate (but not really better) progression fantasy.
