Story has good (proven) concepts/tropes- vrmmo, time-dilation, well-written antagonist. Voice acting was decent. Execution of the overall story was done okay, but a huge gripe for me are the rest of the characters, which come off as overly flat, generic, and not interesting at all. My biggest pet peeve is the constant ether chugging. It was very off putting and tiresome to hear every other sentence in action sequences. Oh my god I wanted to drop the book several times because of it. The skills, magic, and techniques were treated superficially at best, with the exception of the void energy. As a reader/listener I didn’t get a good feel of the type of skills that would typically draw me in. They all felt random. Classes didn’t feel like it mattered too much as well, as it seemed everyone could wield all weapons and perform all roles, with exception of healing. Check out the Ripple System books for a better overall experience.
