While I did enjoy this book enough to want to know what happened next, I kept waiting for it to be more, to have the little something extra that would take it from good to great. I think in part the problem might partially lie in the performance. I enjoyed Jeff Hays when I first started listening to LitRPG’s 2 years ago but after listening to him on the first two Life Reset novels by Kuznit, I enjoyed him a bit less due to not being as diverse as others I’d discovered. Justin Thomas James isn’t bad but I don’t think this was the best story to showcase his talents. Laurie Catherine Winkel was the real standout talent. She brought a lot of depth and diversity to the female characters.
I think I would have preferred to read this book rather than listen to it as the audible version just didn’t mix well for me.
