The story is so generic it can be summarized with the following description: “Damaged veteran prepper loses family, quotes Biblical Scripture, kills people indiscriminately, and rides off into the sunset with a gun.” The usual stereotypes abound: women are brutally mistreated and are pretty much useless in the story, hours long descriptions of military guns, it happens in Texas (of course), and the hero wastes the bad guys with ease after getting wounded. Almost forgot to blame the drug cartels and refugees too — argh! While the author shows some talent with his descriptive passages, the plot is so thin and the characters so wooden and one dimensional, it is a pretty painful to listen to…you will be tempted to hit fast forward after chapter 1.
