This is the second book (Villain”s Rule being the first) I’ve read/listened to by this author, and I would definitely listen to another. I listened at work and many times found myself uncontrollably laughing out loud, much to the confusion of my coworkers. The book is full of the usual dry humor, ribbing on tropes, satirical mimicking of superhero’s and villains, and twisting of events to his own devices. To an overly sensitive person, some of the humor may not sit well.

This book has some threads from the first book, but is a complete story in its own right. The ending again plants the seeds for the next book.

In this book we have the Shadow Master kicked out of his own realm by his pregnant girlfriend. The Jin (his assistant whom is biding her time to kill him) has sided with his girlfriend. The Shadow Master is offered a chance to go to another realm and maintain all his powers. The resident God is bored and makes a deal with him… stir things up and do something “different”.. If he can’t, he owes the God a favor.

This is the third book I’ve listened to by this narrator and I would listen to another-again and again! He continues his excellent narration with this book. He uses distinct voices and some accents for each character and the female voices are well done. He nails the sarcastic, overconfident Shadow Master’s voice. I’m not sure if if the book would be as good if I had just read it, and I don’t think another narrator could do as good as Mr. Kafer has.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence, but there is some swearing.
