I’ve listen to many audiobooks narrated by Jeff Hays, and, as always, Hays gives an excellent performance. He really brings the story to life and creates a distinct voice for each character.
This series is definitely entertaining. Crazy adventures and intense action. It’s a very imaginative world with a page-turning story. I appreciate that Corvin doesn’t bog the series down with too much gamer minutia, especially given how difficult it would be to follow stats, etc in audiobook format.
The only problem I had with this book: most of the characters drove me nuts. I did a lot of cringing and eye rolling, mostly thanks to really poor decision-making and immature humor. It was hard to even root for them and found myself hoping for less internal dialogue and character exposition. That said, it’s clear that Corvin put quite a bit of effort into creating Ludas, which more than made up for the characters’ deficiencies and I’ll definitely listen to the next book in the series.
I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
