I sincerely wish I knew what I was signing up for. To those looking to potentially get into this series, know that it almost excessively bible thumps throughout the whole thing, some chapters worse than others. The entire universe is built following that some form of Christianity rules supreme without any major religion or opposing views, and this goes for all the Xeno races as well. This truly was the biggest let down and felt forced if not extremely narrow minded. It felt gross and exclusive most of the time for someone like myself that has, respectfully, other views.

I decided to stick with it as reading outside your comfort zone is good once and a while. Other than the blatant problem I had above, many of the characters were enjoyable, with the exception of Esper who #1: was the main source of bible thumping mentioned above, and 2#: her screw ups never carried heavy consequences despite probably being the largest point of failure in many of the missions.

The magic idea grew on me despite myself looking for a more Science fiction story, Mort was probably the best character to have scenes, followed by Carl’s silly ingenious plans that seemed to always somewhat work. I enjoyed the more shallow and episodically written bits, and cannot comment on how closely it is reflecting “Firefly” as I have never watched it.

The narration was top notch, the range of voices Mikael Naramore were excellently done and probably carried this book for me. Without his expertise, I don’t think I could have read this book traditionally in a physical medium.

Overall I wouldn’t really recommend this series to anyone unless you are okay with pigeon holed religious views. If it wasn’t so hard on the bible thumping and that the entire universe is ruled by one religion, I’d probably recommend it just for the fun stories and easy going story. However, the entirety of the books and universe is stunted purely by bible thumping.
