This picks up where the first book left off and then simmers before taking off again. It really felt like a bit of a reverse narative arch in my opinion. Book two starts with some exciting parts and then kind of slows down simmers… then it picks up and ends rather abruptly. Their is great world building and it does leave off in a spot that does leave you wanting more. Just be prepared to read these in order and pretty quickly next to each other, it feels very much like one of those mini series that we end up binge watching from start to finish.

This is a clean read – G level, free of any: bad language, graphic violence and intimate situations/scenes. It really is a great fantasy for the elementary school age reader on up, although as an adult the pre-teen angst got a little grating for me (probably doesn’t help that I am in that stage and older with my own kids now).

The narrator did a good job with the voices and overall acting. I felt it was a tad slow but once I sped it up to 1.25x it was much better.
