The author has a fun concept here. Unfortunately, his ability to construct a world with believable characters with consistent motivations and personalities aren’t really here just yet. I don’t know the author’s age, but all of the characters are emotionally immature which suggests a limitation of the author. So it’s a bit like reading a fantasy novel in which all their characters either act like they are in middle school or act like a middle schooler might imagine a wise, cruel, or powerful person might act.
This is a bummer, because the whole fantasy symbiote concept is brilliant and has a lot of legs. Sadly, the characters were just too much for me.
