It started off a bit wobbly because of the narrator, but once she found her flow it quickly grabbed my attention. It reminds me a lot of Francine River’s “Her Mothers Hope”&”Her Daughter’s Dream”, two of my favorite books. I really enjoy this style of writing. I do think some of the bad theology(both Catholic&Protestant) could’ve been addressed and called out bringing a bit of education to the reader. The mistakes and cultural biases of the parents set a terrible situation in motion. Instead the focus was on Emma&Patrick’s disobedience to their parent’s/church’s flawed way of thinking. Seems we will never completely overcome man’s ignorance when it comes to context and bad interpretation of scripture. So many are riddled with guilt and shame simply because of flawed theology.
Still, I enjoyed the story line very much.
