Wild Chance is book 13 in the Wilder Irish series and follows Padraig and Emmy from friends to lovers.
Wild Chance begins in Ireland on the “boys” trip given to Pop Pop for the previous Christmas. Pop Pop is talking to Paddy about life. Reminiscing on the past when he met his wife. And asking some tough questions about Paddy moving on from the death of his wife.
That tough conversation, plus other family conversations, has Paddy reconsidering his relationship with Emmy, his best friend. These two met at Pat’s Pub years ago, when she would come in to work. Because she is a romance writer, she can work anywhere. She has found inspiration from watching the members of Paddy’s family fall in love.
Paddy’s family loves Emmy and treat her like a member of the family. She attends family dinners, holiday dinners and girls night. When Pat’s Pub reopens, Emmy brings a date to the celebration. And not just any date. When Paddy sees this, his little green monster comes out.
He always thought of Emmy as a friend. He was not ready to move on from his wife. But this impetus makes him realize he feels more for her. And boy is his family on board.
Things are going good. They are in a committed relationship and enjoying the benefits. But when it looks like history is going to repeat itself, Paddy walks away. He is afraid of losing another person he loves.
It will take the entire Collins clan to convince him to give love another chance.
I understand Paddy’s fears, but I felt like he would not listen to Emmy and that really bothered me. I felt like he just walked out on her. No discussion. Nothing. They were just done.
Lee Daniels has narrated yet another book in this series. She handles the friendship, love, fear and heartbreak of Emmy so well. Connor Brown brought out the attitude of Paddy still mourning his wife and not wanting to get involved with anyone. Then the little green monster scene. And finally his paralyzing fear.
