Wow, I’m hooked. Narrator Jorjeana Marie really sold the book with her talented voice and ability do multiple voice. This book’s story was a slow burn. I’m use to a thriller having a murder or mystery or some action to appear at least within the first five chapters of a book but that’s not what happened here. First I started to suspect the writer was never going to give us anything worthwhile and this entire book was a tease or set up to force the reader to buy the second book in the series just to finally see if any action happens. I’m not a fan of writers who pull such bate and switch tactics.

This books instead builds slowly. Builds with backstory and intensity and flushing out our protagonist and our antagonist storylines. As the story builds and shapes we have Deanna Madden’s story being told in her current time and then back a few years when the catalyst event that leads her to live in Apartment 6E as Jessica, her alter ego. As we are getting to know more about Deanna we are also learning about the inner thinking of our antagonist and where his goal lies. Eventually we learn how Deanna as Jessica crosses path with our antagonist and what spurs her into action.

As I was reading the first part of the book I was getting a “The Client List” vibe mixed with a bit of “American Psycho”. Next as the story progressed it had more of a female Dexter/Lisbeth Salander feel to it and that’s where the real story builds to a nice crescendo. I was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. I wasn’t disappointed.

I’m ready for book 2, “Do Not Disturb”. I need more of Miss Madden, aka Jessica, and her wicked ways.
