What made the experience of listening to Night of the Grizzlies the most enjoyable?
All of it. Just…all of it. My first listen, I had the same anticipatory, “It’s gonna be that person that gets it…no…wait…that one! That one…no, wait…” feeling I had when I first watched Jaws. Definitely not your average audiobook experience. Couldn’t wait – and didn’t – to listen to it again.

If you’re looking at this, you’re probably already a fan of Jack Olsen or Kevin Pierce or both. Audiobooks don’t get any better than that combination. What’s great about this for fans of the duo is that both Olsen’s and Pierce’s style(s) are perfect for this type of story, too!

Who was your favorite character and why?
I like the journalist, G. George Ostrum (I hope I got that name at least a little right; the Google wasn’t very helpful at trying to look it up), and the retired Sheriff, W. R. Hammond. I like to hear from locals when things happen, especially in regards to local wildlife. I particularly like these types of local reactions in cases where something (officially) unexpected has happened.
Which scene was your favorite?
Definitely when the doctor and his wife, the nurse, are trying to get to sleep. It’s a little bit of comedy that makes the story structure all the more effective. Hitchcockian, in a way. Or, if you prefer, like watching Jaws…which was Spielberg mimicking Hitchcock (really, really well).
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Wanted to and did! A couple of times in a row!
Any additional comments?
It’s so good! I shied away from this book at first because I’m more a true crime fan, but I’m so glad I decided to try it!
